Garnishments

If your bank account has been garnished or levied upon by a creditor, or if you are facing garnishment of your wages, you have options. Upon filing bankruptcy, debtors are protected by the court's "automatic stay." All efforts to collect from the debtor must cease, including garnishments and levies. Even the IRS must stop garnishing when the automatic stay is in effect.

Money taken from you within 90 days preceding bankruptcy can be refunded to you under certain circumstances.
